Creating Happiness & Getting Healthy Are Intimately Linked
For the last couple of weeks I have been thinking about how to help more people in an even bigger way.
My clients have made tremendous gains, from yes, weight loss, to career promotions and financial rewards, but all of them walked away with deeper, more fundamental gains.
One woman reclaimed her life post-divorce. A single mom started making meals with her son and as a result transformed her relationship with him. A 30-something man for the first time no longer obsessed over food. A mom-of-four implemented exercise, alone time, self-care and stopped daytime drinking to find peace for the first time in years. A 50-year old woman learned to say, “No” and found her voice for the first time in her life.
“What’s the common thread?”
Every single one of my clients came to me wanting to feel healthier. Every single one of my clients left me feeling happier, more at peace, secure and confident in their choices.
In essence a holistic approach to health creates happiness.
I believe that happiness lies within all of us. Over the years the residue of life smothers it. Yes, we have moments of feeling happy, but happiness eludes us. Perhaps it’s the compounding effect of would, could, should, must, and need, in addition to regret, guilt, and shame, as well as the stifling of our own desires and creative spirits.
Whatever the cause, this I know for sure:
Buried underneath the yearning to lose weight, or the want of recognition at work in the form of a promotion, or the almost desperate need for connection in relationships, is the pursuit of happiness.
Or, perhaps I should say a return to happiness. Almost everyone, even those who have experienced misery, can point to a time in their life when they felt “happy.”
I believe our health, at the very core, is a reflection of our level of happiness. Heal your health, uncover what your body is telling you, and watch your level of happiness soar.
The best part? Everyone is entitled to the pursuit of happiness. It’s time to let it out.
