I Ride For My Dad

February 16, 2016 by Melissa Rapoport 14 Comments

JOIN THE BATTLE. Beat Rare Cancers.

Ride For My Dad

That’s me with my dad when he was young and healthy! I like to remember him that way.

This year I ride for my Dad.

When my Dad was admitted to the hospital last summer he was diagnosed with leukemia and passed away less than a week later of pneumonia. Little did I now that when we entered the hospital he would not return home. I often wonder what would have happened had he been diagnosed earlier.

I have been touched deeply by cancer with people I love dearly. I have lost count of the the number of people close to me struggling with cancer diagnoses in the last year alone. Currently I am working with two survivors with post-treatment nutrition.

Last year I rode for two friends battling leukemia. It is because of research, like that at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, that my friends have received life-saving care and treatment.

I am committed to ensuring rare cancer patients get new and better treatment options. That’s why I’m raising money for Cycle for Survival. My ride will fund research led by Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center—benefiting patients worldwide.

100% of every dollar raised funds pioneering research.

DONATE TO MY RIDE

Why this matters:

WE EACH HAVE A BATTLE CRY — Rare cancers touch too many lives and hit too close to home. Together, we’re united in this battle. Cycle for Survival is our way of making a difference.

RARE CANCERS ARE MORE COMMON THAN YOU THINK — Approximately 50% of all cancer patients are fighting a rare cancer. These are familiar diseases: pediatric cancers, leukemia, lymphoma—and thyroid, ovarian and pancreatic cancers. All are among the many types classified as rare.

THERE AREN’T ENOUGH TREATMENT OPTIONS FOR PATIENTS — Rare cancer patients often face limited or no treatment options. Cycle for Survival is committed to changing that by funding innovative clinical trials, studies, and research initiatives.

What you can do:

DONATE TO MY RIDE!
Remember, every dollar helps patients

and their families.

Thank you, thank you for helping me find a cure!

Melissa, my mom died of a rare cancer on Christmas Eve in 2004. It was discovered in 2000 after severe pain in her shoulder & arm wouldn’t go away. It took WEEKS for them to identify what TYPE of cancer: Stage 4 Multiple Myeloma, a terminal cancer. Her prognosis was 2-4 years, but with a bone marrow transplant in 2002, they’d hoped she’d survive 6-10. She didn’t….we only had her with us another 2 years. I hate that by the time they discover most cancers, it’s already too late. Good luck with your ride! Sharing & donating! xo

Melissa, Your dad and you look so happy in that picture. I like to think of my dad as young and happy too, especially since he passed of heart failure a few years back.
This is such a great initiative you have taken up. May you raise lots of money for this healing cause.
    Much Love & Light,
    Z~

Zeenat, yes, we were very happy in that photo. I remember the day so well. I was so proud to be riding around with my dad. I find that focusing on when he was healthy and happy helps me celebrate his life — I imagine it does the same for you? Thank you for your love and light! Sending you the same. xo
